UzAW 2025: BRULA Hosts English Law Day and Case Study Session

A day dedicated to professional dialogue, legal innovation, and international cooperation

24/09/25

On 24 September 2025, the British-Uzbek Law Association (BRULA) hosted an in-depth professional session as part of Uzbek Arbitration Week (UzAW 2025), bringing together leading practitioners and arbitration experts from the United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.

The session - held under the umbrella of English Law Day - explored the landmark “UZFACTORY” Case Study, which modelled a complex cross-border joint venture in Uzbekistan's industrial sector.

Discussions focused on the legal, regulatory, and procedural challenges arising in large-scale international projects, with particular attention to English law, investment structuring, and remedies under arbitration frameworks.

The panel was introduced by Sherzod Abdulkasimov, one of the Founding Member of the British-Uzbek Law Association, who highlighted BRULA's ongoing commitment to fostering collaboration and sharing practical experience between legal communities of both jurisdictions.

Session Highlights

Part I – Regulatory and Financing Issues

Speakers examined the intersection of corporate governance, investment regulation, and multi-jurisdictional financing, addressing the practical application of English and Uzbek law in structuring and managing complex industrial projects.

Part II – Causes of Action and Interim Remedies

This segment focused on remedial strategies and procedural tools available in cross-border disputes, including interim measures, freezing orders, and jurisdictional challenges under English law and institutional arbitration rules.

Speakers and all Participants discussed practical enforcement risks, coordination between arbitral and national courts, and the implications of concurrent proceedings under different arbitral regimes.

Through events such as this session, BRULA continues to serve as a leading platform for comparative legal dialogue, capacity building, and international cooperation between the legal professionals of the United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.

The Association remains committed to promoting English law as a global standard for commercial transactions and arbitration, while supporting the development of professional excellence and institutional integrity in Uzbekistan’s legal community.
